Full disclosure. I have a Biochemistry Degree and what I write here pertains to me and my experience. I am hoping that some people will find this beneficial.
First things first. The insurance industry does not understand Sickle Cell diseases, the myriad of versions there are. In fact, as far as I can see, they don’t want to know so it is best to look after yourself as much as possible to mitigate the need for hospital treatments.
Hospitals / Doctors favour drugs over adjustments to lifestyle.
A lot of the time, Doctors are guessing.
My first priority was to secure a roof over my head. I knew my employment was going to be topsy turvy so I had to plan accordingly.
High stress makes the body more prone to sickling so the lower hte stress on the body the better. For me, the key to this is food. Making the body as alkaline as possible is hte way to go. An acidic body makes the body under more stress, less able to function. So some lemon juice in water is a great way to make the body more alkaline. I know what you’re thinking. Lemons are acidic.? Right. But once inside the body it is more alkaline. Green vegetables are another way. Cutting out processed food is another. We are not designed to cope with the amount of processed food we eat.
No. Don’t do them. They make the body acidic and also htey are full of Carbon Dioxide which is a waste product. The body breathes it out so why take it in?
SUPPLEMENTS and VEGANISM:
I discovered Chlorophyll and Mangosteen as supplements by listening to the podcast below. Going Vegan is an option that people should explore.
Chlorophyll is very similar to Haemoglobin in its chemical structure. The only downside is that it tastes like (and looks like) pond water.
Mangosteen juice tastes like Aloe Vera so htatsnot too bad.
I can vouch for the benefits from these 2. I have tried them myself andI have definately felt better, more energetic.
Drink lots of it. The body is mostly water. This is a no-brainer.
On top of this. I mentioned earlier about the body being under stress. I found out what foods I am sensitive to so I avoid foods I am allergic to. The change in diet has been the most beneficial for me.
